This week was really busy, but really good! Here’s some highlights!
Week 7 A week full of technical learning.
Monday a biologist came in to teach us about pollinators and pollinators grades emphasizing native flowers to help local bio diversity. In the first weeks we had planted native seeds which by this point had sprouted into seedlings and were ready to plant!
Tuesday we went to a compost farm. They gave us two delicious home cooked meals. It was a fascinating and inspiring process. The majority of us unfortunately got sick that night from the food they gave us. Unfortunate amount of irony hahahah. I still am excited to try a compost project of my own.
Tuesday evening we played pool at a PC buddy name Matt’s house. House might not describe it, mansion might be the word.
Wednesday Manos Especials came in to talk to us about eco-bricks or ecoladrillos. Eco-bricks are plastic bottles stuffed tightly with plastic that can be surrounddd by cement or natural building materials (think adobe) to create structures. The group Manos Especiales (Special Hands) works with students with learning disabilities. In previous years, while working with a Peace Corps Volunteer, they had won a science convention for a bench they made from eco-bricks, even winning so far as to go to Brazil to present the project. We stuffed bottles to make eco-bricks but didn’t end up making anything from them.
Wednesday evening there was a game night in the office. We played board games and ate snacks.
Thursday we had long day of preparation for next week’s Eco-Fair. More about that in next weeks post!
Friday we had a full day of Mexican Culture and Spanish grammar. We learned to dance El Payaso del Rodeo or the Rodeo Clown, a typical line dance in parties (think the electric slide).
Here’s a video on the dance if you’re interested:
Friday night we went to see a soccer game of Querétaro’s local team. They lost 1-0 :(
Saturday there was a music event and then a chocolate festival in the same place. The music event was on music education in the Centro de Arte de Querétaro, and I went to hear some performances (jazz and classical) and learn some skills to teach young children through music. I wasn’t expecting to go, but in the same Art Center there was a chocolate fair! I invited my friends and we tried all the free samples that they had! It was a good day.
Sunday was LEG DAYYYYY in the gym. I’m staying fit while here in Querétaro City.
That’s all for now, until next time! ¡Gracias por leer!
